Girl is an IGP3 dog, so her sessions are short and direct because we’re really just at the proofing stage of her training. Guy and I are still learning each other. I made several mistakes on my end with the two-toy work, and looking back, I wonder if I should have done the jump first to help expend some energy. The hurdle training isn’t formal by any means. I wanted something to break up our routine of heeling, out-of-motion exercises, and two-toy work. That’s the reason the hurdle is on the ground. From our quick little introduction, my guess is that I need to start with the basics of him understanding that hitting the jump isn’t allowed (using food), and then go back to the around training. Either way, learning occurred on both sides of the leash, so I count it as a win and they are happy because we worked. #wildchild #dogtrainingnearme #germanshepherd #newbernnc #emeraldislenc

Athena came to us because she was getting over stimulated and redirecting on her sister. We worked hard on her emotional state while she was with us and taught her to self regulate when she is reaching those big emotions. She has made huge improvements and we can’t wait to see what the rest of her journey holds 💕

When two female dogs fight, it’s rarely “out of nowhere.” One of the biggest mistakes I see is assuming a dog is “fixed” because they behave in a controlled training environment. Training doesn’t end when the session does. The real test is real life.

Can your dog regulate their emotions when another dog invades their space? When routines change? When excitement or conflict appears unexpectedly? Or does everything fall apart the moment management isn’t perfect?

Management has its place, but our goal is to build dogs that can make better decisions not just dogs that behave because every variable is controlled.

In this video, I break down why proofing behavior in real-world scenarios is essential if you want reliable, lasting results. Training isn’t about rehearsing success in ideal conditions. It’s about preparing for the moments you can’t predict.

I guess with growing popularity on social media, your content eventually gets pushed to people who honestly just don’t have a clue. A stranger left a cruddy comment yesterday saying my video was “of no help” because their dog attacked their neighbor. My first thought was… I’ve never claimed my videos are step-by-step how-to guides.

If I filmed a behavior case from start to finish, we’d be talking hours of footage. Behavior training isn’t just about what you see it’s about how I’m interacting with the dog, reading body language, managing the environment, setting up scenarios, working through triggers, and making constant decisions based on what the dog is telling me. There’s a lot happening in my head that doesn’t translate in videos.

Believe it or not, I don’t even have my phone on me most of the time. I’ll grab a few clips during the first session for stories, then set it down and get to work. What you see on social media is probably 10% or less of a dog’s actual training journey. Yes, we try to post longer sessions on YouTube so you can get a better picture, but even then, it’s just one small glimpse into a 12-hour day.

So, to be clear: we do not make “how-to” videos for behavior cases. It’s nearly impossible to do responsibly when we don’t know you, your dog, your relationship, your timing, your handling skills, or your environment. The smallest variable can completely change the outcome.

What we do share is the process we used for that dog in the video. That doesn’t mean it’s the exact process your dog needs. Suggesting otherwise would be irresponsible.

The bigger point? Social media rarely shows the whole picture, no matter what the topic is.

I love teaching people who genuinely want to learn, improve, and deepen their relationship with their dogs. Those are my kind of people.
If you’re looking for quick fixes, minimal effort, and zero interest in becoming a better handler… you can pound sand. I don’t have the time or patience for that mindset.
