Tamaskan Wolfdog, intro to play

Intro to play with a Tamaskan. Two things we are working on are 1.) breaking up stress through movement. Even if the dog doesn’t engage with the toy or you, using momentum will break up the dog’s frozen behavior and encourage curiosity. With curiosity, we can encourage behaviors we like and start building a bond based on trust. Allowing the dog to hide and stay frozen not only heightens their fear but also confirms that they should be scared. 2.) Encouraging the person to continue play even if the dog isn’t engaging. Oftentimes, we give up too easily when a dog doesn’t want to play. The dog is watching and will start to show interest. If not this game, maybe the next. But giving up too early doesn’t show sincerity in your intentions. By the end of this video, you can see the dog open up, and by the end of two weeks, the dog was engaging in chase.
