Dog Travel Tips

With this day and age, more and more folks are traveling with their dog. It is a fun experience for dog and human alike, but without these basic items for your furry friend a fun trip can turn quickly into stress.

Here is a quick list of items to bring or think about when traveling with your dog.

🌎 Food to last the duration of your trip. Switching foods while already on the road can cause diarrhea, so it’s best to avoid a shit-show and keep them on the same food.

🌎 Water bowls and a couple water jugs to rehydrate your furry friend. Depending on my destination, I will pack enough water for the duration of my trip if I’m in a remote area.

🌎 Leash, proper fitting collar with rabies tag, and a long line. Most places require you to keep your dog leashed at all times. So to allow for some more exploration I will attach a long line to my dog. Or if ecollar trained and has a solid recall, I will use the ecollar system instead of a long line dependent on location. Always check the area first for potential hazards before bringing your dog out to explore.

🌎 Poop bags! You know what they’re used for.

🌎 Copy of vaccinations. If there is ever an emergency and you need to board your dogs somewhere or take them to a vet. Brining a copy of their vaccinations will save you from jumping through the hoops to get them in a safe environment or the care they need.

🌎 Crate. I can’t preach it enough that crating your dog while driving or in a new location can save you a lot of heartache and money. Traveling can be stressful and accidents happen. Give them a safe place to relax and hangout while your attention is elsewhere.

🌎 Toy of some sort to play with and to deter boredom. For example I bring a ball to play fetch and a chew bone for downtime.

Just a couple of things I recommend to bring when traveling with your pup.
