Charlie, 12 week old, first session using food

In the first training session, the puppy is learning how to interact with food. She's being taught rules like keeping feeding times between 5-15 minutes and removing the food bowl afterwards. She's also learning the concept of maintaining focus. Constant stimulation, much like with children and their electronic devices, can prevent learning to focus. When the electronics are off, they often seem disoriented. The same applies to puppies. That's why I'm teaching her to block out distractions, understand marker words, grasp the importance of focus, and reinforcing the behaviors I want to see. This is the foundational step in teaching a dog anything—they need to be motivated and understand the reasons behind their actions. As she grows, I'll continue to use food training to instill new behaviors and manners.
